Internet Explorer 7 Released

You may be aware that Microsoft has released the next version of its popular browser, Internet Explorer 7. The new version provides many improvements over the previous version, Internet Explorer 6, such as a new look, tabbed browsing allowing multiple websites to be opened in one window and improved security and protection for phishing and malicious websites.

Microsoft will be releasing this new version through it's Windows Updates service, so those of you who have this enabled do not need to do anything, it will download and install onto your computer automatically (you will be asked if you do or do not want it installed). If you do not use Windows Updates, you can still download and install it manually from the Microsoft website at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.mspx. Web Standards

It is well known that the most popular browser, Internet Explorer 6, does not comply with web coding standards. This is a bit of an annoyance for us web developers because it means websites designed for Internet Explorer 6 may look different in all the compliant browsers. This is something we have to take into account to ensure your websites work across all browsers. But the good news is that, although still not fully compliant, Internet Explorer 7 has taken Microsoft one step close to complying with web standards.

So how does this affect you?

Because Microsoft has improved the compliance to web standards in their new browser, the new browser may render some websites differently compared to Internet Explorer 6. Some common differences may be to widths of columns and padding between various sections of websites. It all depends on how the original website was developed. In most cases there may be no difference, but in a few cases the differences are very clear, and can result in websites looking un-professional.

Therefore, striving to provide a quality service for our clients, we have already reviewed our clients websites to check for any differences in the new browser and have already made any changes necessary to ensure the websites remain unchanged.

Nevertheless, we do have a lot of websites to check, and although we have improved the major issues that are obviously out of place to the visitor, there may still be some small differences here and there. So if you are using Internet Explorer 7 and notice a difference to any of our site s compared to Internet Explorer 6, please be sure to let us know so we can make any changes necessary.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact us.

Thank you
